Worlds 2021: Start Date and a Full Line-Up
Two final participants of 2021 World Championship have been determined this weekend. First, LNG Esports managed to become the fourth representative of the Chinese region at the event. They managed to defeat Team WE (3-1) in the lower final of LPL Regional Finals 2021.
The second team is DetonatioN FocusMe, who managed to become the champions of LJL Summer 2021. They defeated Rascal Jester (3-0) in the grand finals of the Japanese league. Both LNG and DetonatioN qualified to the Play-In stage of 2021 Worlds.
While it has not been confirmed yet, it is very likely that the Vietnamese league VCS Summer 2021 will not be represented at the Worlds – for the third time in a row. If this is the case, the full line-up of the event is as follows:
- Group Stage Teams: Edward Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, Royal Never Give Up, DAMWON Gaming, Gen.G, T1, MAD Lions, Fnatic, 100 Thieves, Team Liquid, PSG Talon
- Play-In Teams: Beyond Gaming, Cloud9, DetonatioN FocusMe, Galatasaray Esports, Hanwha Life Esports, Infinity, LNG Esports, PEACE, RED Canids, Rogue, Unicorns of Love
Besides that, RIOT Games have published a trailer for 2021 World Championship. The trailer’s description reveals that the event will begin on October 5th. This will be the first time when LoL Worlds coincides with Dota 2’s The International, which is scheduled for October 7th – 17th.
Earlier RIOT Games decided to relocate 2021 Worlds from China to Europe due to international travel restrictions. Currently the event’s location remains unannounced; however, it is highly speculated that it will be held in Iceland – earlier this year the country also hosted Mid-Season Invitational.
